Festival themes

Healthier lives
How can we build care systems that work for everyone?
From those receiving care, those providing it, and the communities around them?
We will explore ideas such as care cooperatives, community-led support, preventative health, mutual aid and new models that value care as essential social infrastructure.
Kinder communities

How can we create better places to live, work and belong?
This theme will explore the amazing community and economic development work happening all around us, including approaches such as Experience Improvement Districts, creative regeneration, neighbourhood organising, civic pride and community-led place-shaping.

Greener futures
How can communities take practical action on climate change while improving everyday life?
We will explore the great work happening across Thanet and beyond, including community-owned energy, local climate action, nature restoration, biodiversity, retrofit, climate change resilience and projects that reconnect people with the natural world around them.
Good food for all

How can we build food systems that are better for people, farmers and the planet?
This theme will explore everything from local food growing, community food networks, food poverty, agroecology, land access, sustainable farming and how communities can create a better food future from the ground up.
Thriving local places

How can we create local economies that keep wealth, opportunity and power in the hands of communities?
We will explore the role of social enterprise, cooperatives, community businesses, community wealth building, good jobs, local procurement and other practical ways to build fairer, more resilient economies.
A place to call home

How can communities shape the future of the places they call home?
This theme will explore projects such as community-led housing, community-land trusts, cooperative ownership, retrofit, meanwhile use, and ways to make housing and land more affordable, democratic and rooted in local need.
